Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting 85% of teenagers and up to half adults aged over twenty-five. Acne forms when glands in the skin produce excess oil which combines with cells in the skin and clogs the pores. Normal bacteria grow in these pores and the body’s response causes inflammation or reddening of the skin that we associate with acne.
Acne can be aggravated by hormones, diet and digestion (sluggish liver or bowel, a diet low in zinc and magnesium or a high GI diet) and toxic factors (smoking, medications, recreational drugs and party pills).
